IKEA meets Habermehl Contracting

Tue, October 10, 2017

The Habermehl team recently undertook a complete kitchen remodel, as well as a reno of a bath and laundry room. This project showcased some of IKEA’s most alluring cabinets, seating and appliances; changing an antiquated kitchen into a masterpiece. A beautiful demonstration of how little touches make a house a home.

From the first meeting with the homeowners, John and Lucy, it was a great connection. Lucy told us that when they decided to renovate their kitchen they went through a long process, trying to narrow down the best Halifax renovation contractor. “When we met Dwight, there was a calmness that we experienced,” Lucy said. “We felt very comfortable.”

Our team drew out plans for the new kitchen, and John and Lucy began searching IKEA for inspiration for a fresh and modern look. (This project took place shortly before IKEA Halifax arrived right on our doorstep; now it will be even easier to select an entire new look for your home with the help of Habermehl Contracting and our new IKEA store.) Once the plans were laid out and the order had arrived, Adam, our site supervisor, and his talented team of carpenters set to work on the transformation of the home.

The team began by stripping the kitchen right back to the studs. They then reframed it to best accommodate the new layout. The crew worked diligently, as the room quickly evolved. The cabinets installed were specially selected from IKEA, and were embellished with custom lighting both inside and below to highlight the fresh and modern look they already provided for the kitchen.

The oven is centered in sparkling quartz countertops; a stunning gas range, both handsome and efficient. The whole room is exquisitely lit by the morning sun that pours in the two huge, sparkling windows placed in the center of the kitchen to best capture the southern exposure. “I am ecstatic about our new kitchen!” Lucy beamed. “It has completely changed the look.”

Their powder room was combined with the laundry room, presenting the problem of a small work space for the laundry. In order to change that, we borrowed from insufficient space in their den, incorporating it in a way it would be most beneficial. From a new toilet, to a beautiful set tub, this bathroom became one of the brightest, updated rooms in the house, making laundry a new found joy. The washer and dryer were front loaders that we raised from the ground to a convenient working height, and under the machines were placed custom drawers for storage. Above the machines was a countertop for a convenient, personal workspace. Not only was the beauty maximized, but the efficiency of the room was greatly expanded.

John and Lucy were overjoyed with the fresh and modern results that filled their home with warm character. They were quick to agree that they would recommend Habermehl Contracting to anyone who might ask. “Working with Habermehl was a really good experience!” Lucy exclaimed. Their enthusiasm and joy was adamant as she concluded the interview in saying, “The Habermehl crew did an excellent job, and they will carry on when our next project arises.”

What a joy to assist you in this beautiful transformation to your home, John and Lucy! We wish you years of happiness in your new kitchen and everything that surrounds it!
